Tributo a Discos Memoráveis.
Fui convidado pela Straub Design para um projeto super interessante: criar releituras de capas de discos clássicos que seriam parte de um calendário exclusivo. A ideia era revisitar essas obras icônicas com uma nova perspectiva, mantendo a essência original, mas adicionando uma camada de reflexão contemporânea ou um toque genuinamente brasileiro. O desafio era grande, afinal, trabalhar com clássicos que marcaram gerações exige respeito e, ao mesmo tempo, uma dose de ousadia para trazer algo novo. Minha abordagem foi mergulhar nas histórias por trás de cada álbum, buscando símbolos e contextos que pudessem ser atualizados ou reinterpretados de forma visualmente impactante e significativa. Não era só mudar por mudar, mas sim entender para reinterpretar.
I was invited by Straub Design for a very interesting project: to create reinterpretations of classic album covers that would be part of an exclusive calendar. The idea was to revisit these iconic works with a new perspective, maintaining their original essence, but adding a layer of contemporary reflection or a genuinely Brazilian touch. The challenge was significant; after all, working with classics that marked generations demands respect and, at the same time, a touch of boldness to bring something new. My approach was to delve into the stories behind each album and the band itself, seeking symbols and contexts that could be updated or reinterpreted in a visually impactful and meaningful way. It wasn't just about changing for the sake of change, but rather understanding to reinterpret.

O álbum dos Racionais é um grito, uma realidade nua e crua das periferias brasileiras. A capa original já tem essa carga pesada, com um fundo escuro e tipografia marcante. Quis intensificar essa sensação visceral. Mantive o fundo preto, que serve como um cenário sombrio e opressor. As letras góticas, que já são icônicas, foram estilizadas para parecerem escritas com sangue. Não é apenas um efeito estético; é um símbolo direto do sangue derramado e da violência presente nas narrativas do disco – pensando na reflexão sobre racismo, desigualdade e o triste massacre do Carandiru, que ressoa forte em uma das faixas mais emblemáticas. É uma forma de dizer: "Olha para a ferida, ela ainda está aberta."
The Racionais album is a cry, a raw and stark reality of the Brazilian peripheries. The original cover already carries this heavy weight, with a dark background and striking typography. I wanted to intensify this visceral feeling. I kept the black background, which serves as a somber and oppressive backdrop. The gothic letters, already iconic, were stylized to look as if written in blood. This isn't just an aesthetic effect; it's a direct symbol of the blood spilled and the violence present in the album's narratives – reflecting on racism, inequality, and the tragic Carandiru massacre, which strongly resonates in one of its most emblematic tracks. It's a way of saying: "Look at the wound, it's still open."

A capa de "Nevermind" é um ícone global, com o bebê submerso indo em direção a uma nota de dólar. Para muitos, ela representa a busca por dinheiro e a materialidade da vida. Eu pensei: e se fosse hoje? O que seria a nova "nota de dólar" para uma geração em crescimento? A resposta veio clara: as telas, a inteligência artificial, um celular. O bebê agora se estica em direção a um smartphone, simbolizando a crescente dependência e a influência onipresente da tecnologia e das redes sociais. Não é mais só o dinheiro que nos tenta, mas a conexão digital, a validação online, os infinitos feeds. Essa mudança visual busca refletir como as prioridades e as pressões da sociedade contemporânea evoluíram. Enfrentamos hoje uma era onde o digital dita muitas das regras.
The "Nevermind" album cover is a global icon, featuring the submerged baby reaching for a dollar bill. For many, it represents the pursuit of money and the materiality of life. I thought: what if it were today? What would be the new "dollar bill" for a growing generation? The answer was clear: screens, artificial intelligence, a cell phone. The baby now reaches for a smartphone, symbolizing the growing dependence and omnipresent influence of technology and social media. It's no longer just money that tempts us, but digital connection, online validation, the endless feeds. This visual change seeks to reflect how the priorities and pressures of contemporary society have evolved. Today, we face an era where the digital dictates many of the rules.

O álbum "Secos & Molhados" surgiu em um período de forte censura no Brasil, em pleno Regime Militar. A banda, por si só, já era um sopro de inovação na MPB. O nome da banda, dizem, veio da fachada de um armazém. Essa foi uma oportunidade de celebrar a nossa cultura. Minha releitura buscou capturar a essência das pinturas típicas e populares que vemos nas fachadas de armazéns, padarias e comércios de bairro pelo Brasil. Sabe aquelas artes vibrantes, muitas vezes ingênuas, mas carregadas de simbolismo e história? Elas refletem a riqueza cultural e o pulsar da vida cotidiana das ruas brasileiras. É uma homenagem à arte que está por toda parte, muitas vezes sem ser percebida como tal, mas que carrega a alma do nosso povo.
The "Secos & Molhados" album emerged during a period of strong censorship in Brazil, amidst the Military Regime. The band itself was a breath of innovation in MPB (Brazilian Popular Music). The band's name, it is said, came from the facade of a Dry goods store. This was an opportunity to celebrate our culture. My reinterpretation aimed to capture the essence of the typical and popular paintings we see on the facades of Dry goods stores, bakeries, and local shops across Brazil. You know those vibrant arts, often naive, yet loaded with symbolism and history? They reflect the cultural richness and the pulse of daily life on Brazilian streets. It's a tribute to the art that is everywhere, often unnoticed as such, but carries the soul of our people.
