36 Days of Type is a project that invites designers, illustrators and graphic artists to express their particular interpretation of the letters and numbers of our alphabet. A 36 day open call of restless creativity, where participants are challenged to design a letter or number for each day, showing the outcome of the ability to represent the same symbols simultaneously and from thousands different perspectives.

My proposal came from the desire to dedicate my challenge time also to practice things I like, like researching older styles of calligraphy, illustrating and researching more about biblical stories. I chose the Uncial style, widely used from the 3rd to the 8th century by Latin and Byzantine scribes, mainly to make copies of the Bible. Illuminated letters were used to start a paragraph, very ornate and sometimes painted with gold leaves, appeared in Europe in the 6th century and became very popular in the Middle Ages to organize reading, the illustrations within these letters also helped in the narrative of the text. In practice, I searched for Bible verses that started with each letter of the alphabet, from A to Z, and turned each one into an illuminated letter, with an illustration to represent the theme of the verse. I chose to do it in Portuguese, as it is my native language.
